Why Men Rebel was written against the backdrop of worldwide political conflicts in 1970. Today, I was introduced to this book amidst the 2026 Delhi Jantar Mantar protests by the Anticipating the Unintended newsletter.
In the 1970 book Why Men Rebel, American political scientist Ted Gurr claimed that one of the reasons why people rebel is relative deprivation. The greater the difference between their perception of “what we deserve” and “what we are getting”, the higher their propensity to protest or rebel.
