Tree is a collection of essays about trees, another book I got from Perfect Days after Eleven. Hirayama spends his lunch breaks photographing the light falling through the leaves above him, which the Japanese call komorebi, so it makes sense that he would be reading this.
The English translation came out only recently, decades after Aya Kōda wrote these essays, which might be the film’s doing.
