The Player of Games

The Player of Games is the second book in the Culture series. It’s my friend’s favorite book in the series, which nudged me to give it another try after a rather underwhelming experience with the first book.

It was slow at the start, but it more than made up for it once the story progressed. I read a little more than the latter half of the book in a single afternoon.

The worldbuilding around the omnipotent machines, The Culture, and the moral and ethical conundrum set by the plot stood out to me. Suffice to say, much better than the first book, and I’m told that the third book is even better.

But maybe I will lay off sci-fi for a while.
