The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows is John Koenig’s project, started in 2009, to put words to feelings that don’t have names yet. I found it through this Vsauce short, where Michael shares some of his favorites, like a word for a solitary experience you wish you could have shared with someone else.

Then he ends with this:

Aphemia, the fear that learning the name of something, a bird, a constellation, an attractive stranger, will somehow ruin it, inadvertently transforming a lucky discovery into a conceptual husk pinned in a glass case, leaving one less mystery fluttering around in the universe.
