Invisible Cities has been on my Amazon wishlist for a while now. While I don’t remember why I wanted to read it back then, this Tweet gave me a compelling reason.
A modern reader might describe this book as “meta.” This might be because the conversations between Marco Polo and Kublai Khan do get increasingly meta with each chapter of the book.
It should be a slow read with ample room for contemplation. The book is about cities, humans, memories, traveling, and more. Perhaps this book is different for you, as it is up to the reader, like the Mongol Emperor, to take what they need.
I get why people come back to this book throughout their lives, and I’m sure they uncover something different each time.
