As I Lay Dying is one of the two Faulkner novels on my list, along with The Sound and the Fury. I came to Faulkner through the 2023 film Perfect Days, where Hirayama reads The Wild Palms before falling asleep.

This one is told by fifteen different narrators as a family carries their mother’s coffin across Mississippi to bury her. It is supposedly the more approachable of the two, so I plan to start here.
